Sponsorship

At The Cross we see ourselves as a supportive and functioning part of our fantastic local community. We aren’t interested in simply throwing down sponsorship moolah and expecting some sort of equivalent financial return. What we believe is that sponsorship is a partnership. It starts with us having a genuine interest in what you do, and wanting to support the community we’re all involved in.

In other words, sponsorship is ingrained in the Southern Cross philosophy and by visiting us you’ll be a part of the exciting experiences taking place. Best of all, you’ll also be supporting a bar that shares your values and supports your personal aspirations.

Are you doing cool things?

We’re keen to hear from you if you can demonstrate that you are contributing to the Wellington or Te Aro community and would like us to partner with you.

Make a start by pulling together your thoughts, and emailing them to us.

Wellington Women's Refuge:

On Saturday the 25th of July we were happy to host the 2nd Wellington Women's Refuge Charity Auction - All sorts of donated goodies went at auction price to the highest bidder and all in the name of helping N.Z's women in need! This is now an annual event here at The Southern Cross. It started last year when the staff were all asked which charity they would like to support in terms of collection counter boxes and events. The vote turned out to be Women's Refuge and since then we have organized, hosted and donated to this event in addition to having collection boxes in place of tip jars! Tu meke! We like to do what we can and these guys are the heroes who you don't always hear about so next time you have shraps to spare you know where to go!

The Boys & Girls' Institute:

As a vibrant part of the wider wellington community, The Southern Cross team get to meet all different kinds of organizations and groups who do awesome work for the people of Wellington. The BGI is one such organization who we reckon should get more props for their ongoing commitment to the well being of our kids and families - Not everyone knows about the great job that they do, basically "The BGI aims to be a vibrant, friendly, youth participatory organisation that is truly bi-cultural and grounded in BGI's original 1883 vision...First and foremost is our commitment to young people. We adapt a holistic view of personal development (physical, mental, spiritual and social) from a relational perspective that takes seriously family, cultural and religious contexts. Our mission is: To work with communities to achieve sustained youth development, which best addresses, the young people's needs, hopes and aspirations". Pretty choice if you ask us. Here at The Cross we host the BGI's annual meetings, basically just help them out any way we can to ensure they have no hassles when they need somkewhere to go, just like they would for our kids. Keep up the good work guys!

The Richter City Roller Derby:

Richter City Roller Derby was established in 2007 by a group of women who decided that Wellington needed a piece of the international roller derby revival.

After nearly two years of hard work recruiting, training and fundraising, Richter City was launched onto the Wellington sports calendar in March 2009 with its first exhibition bout, followed by its first competitive season at the TSB Arena and hosting NZ's first inter-city bout "Skate Highway One" in December against Auckland's Pirate City Rollers.

In total over 4000 tickets were sold for roller derby bouts in Wellington in 2009, demonstrating the growing appetite for a new kind of sport. Wellingtonians of all walks of life turn out to support RCRD - women of real shapes and sizes who give new life to the sport of roller derby.

2010 is set to be another big year for RCRD. The league is growing, with more than 20 new skaters recently graduated from the "freshmeat" training programme. This coming year promises a fierce three game season between home teams Brutal Pageant and Smash Malice, followed by more high stakes inter-city action later in the year.

We think this is choice as for our lovely little city, so we lend a hand by hosting Freshmeat & Greet (see below) and doling out various voucher like prizes and refreshments to help keep these roller deities on wheels. Cher.
